Did you know that many of the Mayflower Pilgrims actually started their journey from Leiden, Holland, aboard a ship called the “Speedwell”?
In 2020 and 2021, it was time to CELEBRATE ! ! – Mayflower Voyage descendants around the world celebrated the 400th anniversary of their ancestor’s arrival in North America. After a harrowing voyage from September to November of 1620, these ‘Saints’ and ‘Strangers’ (that’s what they called themselves) founded Plimoth Colony at a former Wampanoag village site called Patuxant. After having lost half of their number to sickness that 1st terrible Winter and Spring, in the Fall of 1621 the colonists gave thanks and celebrated their deliverance and survival at a ‘Fall Harvest Fete’ with local Wampanoag Tribal members (now associated with our nation’s “Thanksgiving Holiday”). This was an exciting opportunity to commemorate the Plymouth Pilgrims and their Mayflower landing, as well as to share their inspirational stories. Whether you have a Mayflower ancestor or not, this is YOUR HISTORY and we appreciate your attendance at our meetings and your help in making our celebration events a reality.
Stanley London Nautical Gifts partnered at the time with the San Diego Mayflower Colony to help raise money to fund our local events by offering replica maritime instruments used during Mayflower times. Each instrument was engraved to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage. These instruments made great gifts as well as timeless keepsakes which helped our Mayflower Colony achieve its goals. If you are interested, simply visit the Stanley London website.
